HORTICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY.
A very enthusiastic meeting of the above was held in. Mr M. Perreau’s rooms on Tuesday evening last, the Rev, G. K. Aitken being voted to the chair. After discussion, it was decided to rescind the previous office-bearers, and elect officers on similar lines to those adopted by kindred societies in other centres. Rules and catalogues were received from societies in different parts of the colony. The following officers were unanimously elected :—Patron, John Stevens, Esq.,M.H.R. ; President, His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower, Esq.) ; Vice Presidents : Messrs Dr Mandl, Rev. Aitken, F. W. Fraukland, A. S. Easton, Alex Speirs (senr.), G. H. Stiles, Geo. Coley, H. Coley, P. Hennessy, Theo. Easton, T. Nye, P. Neylon, S. Baker, J. H, Robinson, A. S. Stewart, O. Austin, W. Barber, W. Ross, W. Carter, Bowe and Smith (Moutoa), C. Symons, R. B. McKenzie, C. and J. Robinson; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr P. H. Rae-Howard ; Auditors : Messrs Peterson and Morgan; Ladies’ Committee: Mesdames Stewart, Collins (senr.), 0. Austin, A. S. and C. T. Easton, Hornblow, T. Nye, Jas. andC. Symons, Hughes, McMillan," Jas. and R. Barber, Misses Speirs, Neylon, Ross, Fraser, Aitken, Collins, Carter, and Symons ; General: Messrs Woods, Hughes, W. Carter, P. W. Brown, Alf Fraser, M. Perreau, J. Newth, Jackson, G. Satherley, Bullard, W. Nye, and J. K. Hornblow.
It was resolved after some discussion, that the annual member’s subscription be ss, which includes a lady’s ticket and entitles the. member to exhibit at half the entrance fee charged to nonmembers.
It was decided to hold the first show about the middle of March, the exact date to be fixed by the committee at a future meeting. It was resolved to hold a committee meeting on Monday evening next, to draw up rules and arrange a catalogue and report to a further meeting of members on the 24th inst. The Rev. G. K. Aitken was appointed convenor of committee meetings. Votes of thanks to the chair and to Mr M. Perreau concluded the meeting. After the meeting, Mr M. Perreau entertained those present at supper, for which he was accorded a special vote of thanks.
