SPORTING.
By Probable. It is doubtful whether more favourites won in a day’s racing in this colony than survived at Wa-nganui-Egmont Hunt meeting on Thursday. Six out of seven was the record established, in consequence of which most of the raetallicians lost considerably. Punters, for once in a while, had a day in. though the short prices laid prevented anything phenomenal in the way of wins. Old Gold War, ridden by Charley Jenkins, carried off the hack double in good style, though I am of opinion had Irish Rifle got off the mark smartly, he should have annexed the five furlongs. This light chestnut should win first time he is out from now. Both Pilot and Waitoa, who won jumping events at the meeting, should go on winning at Marton, as they have lots of form, and can gallop fast. Foxton horses should play a good part in the decision cf racing stakes this coming season ; perhaps there were never more horses in trainine here than at present, and that most of them are worth their oats the}" will prove before the racing season is very far advanced.
The Horowhenua meeting promises to be well supported by Foxton trainers and owners, as many of their charges are engaged. Glenlora Park was taken home to Palmerston North a week ago, having gone slightly wrong. Don’t essay to know much, but should say that nag would pay better in a dog cart than being raced for a living.
