POLITICAL NOTES.
Premier determined to get through business. 11 If we have not got through our business by Christmas we will come back after Christmas and finish our work,” the Premier emphatically declared in the House the other evening, to a chorus of “ Hear, hears !” from Government members. “I am not blind, nor, I think, are other members, to the unusual and extraordinary delays that have taken place in the House. During the past week I have been led to believe that there is an idea that these delays will prevent us carrying through our programme. Well, there is no difficulty about time, and I think that a driving policy in the early hours of the morning will be unnecessary, but if it is necessary to go on till Christmas we will go on (Hear, hear !), and if we are not finished we will go on again at the beginning of the New Year, and carry our policy through. ’ ’ (Hear, hear.) Mr Massey —We are quite willing ! The Premier—l am glad the hon, gentleman is quite willing. We had a division to-day of 50 to 10, and will probably get through alright. There need be no fear whatever as to the Railway Classification Bill and the Civil Service Classification Bill being put through this session. There is no difficulty in the matter of time, but we should get all the more important policy measures through all their stages before clogging the Order paper with other measures.
