SPORTING.
By Probable. At Hawke’s Bay hunt meeting last Wednesday Lyrist showed some form by defeating good fields twice when giving away a lot of weight. Ormond won a Maiden with Dawn, a big upstanding bay by Birkenhead-Eos, one that can gallop fast, and who will win some big events directly. Post-Haste won the big steeple at the gathering through his pace, not by his jumping, which was very poor. Outer was made hot stuff in the first open event, but Lyrist easily disposed of her in the final bit.
Papatuerehe won the final steeple very easily, and it is a wonder he has not been entered for the National hunt events. The Woodlands Hunt meeting at Pahiatua racecourse to-morrow has filled well, and good racing is expected. Mr J. Lambess has now in his charge the Euroclydon mare, Bonny Boon, until recently owned by Mr Martin Boyle. Tom Proctor is breaking in the v much-talked of Nelson Eatigue chestnut for Fred Easton.
