THE RECENT BURGLARY.
Two Arrests Made. The Accused Remanded. Yesterday afternoon Constable Woods and Detective Quirke arrected John W. Anderson, and Alexander McGlashan, two fishermen, residing at the Heads, on a charge of breaking and entering the premises of M. H. Walker, and stealing therefrom tobacco valued at also with stealing from the premises of Alexander Speirs, a quantity of corrugated iron. The iron has been recovered by the police. It is alleged that the tobacco was conveyed to, and disposed of in Wellington. The accused were brought before P. Hennessy, Esq., J.P. last evening, and remanded to appear on the 24th hist. They were conveyed to the Palmerston gaol, in charge of Constable Dickson and Detective Quirk, by this morning’s train.
Anderson has been previously convicted of theft, but at present the police cannot find anything against McGlashan, who is a young fellow about 20 years of age, and hails from Dannevirke.
