EUCHRE PARTY & DANCE.

The Foxton Lawn Tennis Club held their annual euchre party and dance in the Masonic Hall on Thursday evening last, and (thanks to the lady members, the affair was a huge success both financially and socially. The early part of the evening was devoted to cards and the prizes were won by Mrs Healey and Mr Poole. The “ booby ” prizes fell to Mrs A. Ross and Mrs C. Collins. After supper, which had been entirely supplied by the ladies, dancing was indulged in till a late hour. Mr O. E. Austin acted as Master of Ceremonies. Mr Berthold supplied the dance music. During the evening the trophies won in the recent tournament were presented to the winners by Mr Clemett, who in a few well chosen words referred to the rapid strides the Club was making *and the improved play of the members. The trophies were presented as follows : Ladies’ singles, Miss H. Collins, gold brooch presented by Mr G. W. Morgan; gent’s singles, Mr Bainbridge, dressing case presented by Dr Tatton ; combined doubles, Mrs G. Robinson and Mr A. R. Macdonald. The former received a gold brooch presented by Mr A. E. Shadbolt. Mr Macdonald’s trophy was a pair of silvermounted hair brushes presented by Mr J. S. Watchorn. [We would remind those responsible that the usual courtesy to the press, was not extended in reference to the above. It may have been an oversight: In future, whether oversight or not, we shall refuse to report socials or other functions of a “back-scratching” nature, unless the usual compliment to the press is forthcoming, or the report contributed. A word to the wise etc. J
