FOXTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Foxton School Committee was held in the Borough Chambers on Tuesday night, April 16th, at 7 o’clock. Present:—Messrs A. D. Clemett (chairman), C. I*. Barnard, Coley, Gray, Betty, Frandland and the Secretary. Minutes of previous meetings were read by the Secretary and confirmed. t Correspondence was read from he Education Board re requirements, and from Mr J. Stevens, M.H.R., permitting the School Committee to hold another competition for boys for the prizes he has donated. A report on the Cadets’ Camp at Christchurch was laid before the Committee by the Chairman. Accounts were passed as follows ; Manawatu Hrradd, 5s ; night soil man, 2s 2d ; cleaning to 16th February (J. W. Williams), £g 15s 6d; secretary for stationery, etc., from October 4th, 1906, to April Bth, 1907, 14s id ; J. Nash and Co., 6d.—Total, £l2 17s id. It was resolved on the proposal of Mr Coley, seconded by Mr Wilson, That the children be allowed a half holiday on 24th April to hear the Besses o’ th’ Barn, as prices are reasonable. The Chairman requested all the committee men to be present at the school on Monday, 22nd inst., at 7.30 p.m. sharp. Proposed by Mr Coley and seconed by F. W. Frankland, That the Secretary write to Mr J, Stevens thanking him for his further donation of 10s 6d to the boy Williams for his essay, and for allowing the competition to be open for boys again without reducing the amount of prize money. —Carried. On the proposal of Mr Coley, seconded by Mr Clemett, The headmaster’s report was read by the Secretary and adopted. The Chairman mentioned that he had heard that the old school building was to be pulled down. After some discussion it was resolved, on the proposal of Mr Coley, seconded by the Secretary, That the secretary wire the Board it this is correct. In the headmaster’s report he mentioned that the time was now ripe to start technical classes, as teachers could be arranged with* to come here from Palmerston. —Proposed by Mr Frankland and seconded by the Secretary, That the Secretary write to the Education Board before the next meeting.—Carried. Proposed by Mr Frankland, and seconded by Mr Barnard, That the committee endorse the proposal of the headmaster in his view of rectifying the status of the school— Carried. Proposed by Mr Frankland, and seconded by Mr Gray, That a vote of thanks be passed to Chairman and Secretary for the energetic way they have filled their positions during the year.—Carried unanimously. Moved by the Chairman and seconded by the Secretary, That a vote of thanks be passed to the balance of the committee, who, as the Chairman nicely remarked, had worked with him and the secretary in a very manly and straightforward manner.
