THE THAW TRIAL.
[New York, April 13. Ttye jury in the case in which Harry Thaw is on trial for the murder of Stanford White were unable to agree on Thursday, and were locked up all night. At midday on Friday the jury were still deliberating. It is stated that seven of the jurymen favoured returning a verdict of murder in the first degree, while five were to the acquittal of the prisoner on the ground of insanity.
The newspapers, commenting on the result of the jury’s deliberations, agree in deprecating the fact that justice in America has been impaired and delayed by the power of money and the introduction of confusing and irrelevant issues.
Tondon, April 13. The Times remarks that the trial reveals facts which explain the strong animosity that exists towards a certain class of millionaires who, knowing nothing of the duties of wealth or the graces often coming in its train, end by seeking to escape from sheer boredom by indulgence in unrefined excitements.
New York, April 12. The trial has cost the Thaw family ,£200,000 and the New York County £20, 000. &
