BAZAAR AND VILLAGE FAIR.

The above function was brought to a close in the Public Hall last night, when all the articles in the various stalls were quitted, those not sold by the stall-holders being got rid of by Dutch auction. The attendance last night was even larger than on the two previous evenings. Young ladies in fancy dress were doing good business in tickets for raffles. The stall-holders reported fair business. The reports | of the rifle at the shooting gallery continued almost without interims-1 sion to the close. The telegraph operators and messengers were kept busy, but recipients of messages did not always look pleased when collect wires were thrust into their hands—however, the jokes were taken in good part. The refreshment stalls were very well patronised. Instrumental selections were contributed at invervals. Much interest was centred in the shooting competition for a new double-barrelled gun, over forty competitors having to fire off. The gun finally became the property of Mr Horn blow, who nominated Mr Jarrett as his marksman. This famous physical culturist thereby added another victory to his long list of honours, by gradually outshooting all competitors and proving his skill as a marksman. The total receipts for the three evenings amounted to and when all expenses are liquidated, the affair should result in a net profit of about £"]o. The success of the bazaar very largely depended upon the self-sacrificing efforts and splendid enthusiasm displayed by Secretary Simpson, We believe this gentleman could outdo even Munro, of Exhibition fame, in carrying out functions of this kind. Mr Simpson was ably assisted by Mr Howard, who, with other members of the Band, so successfully arranged the preliminaries. We cannot speak too highly of the ladies, without whose aid the bazaar could not have been held. Where so many lent assistance it would be invidious to mention names. The Band desires to express its heartiest thanks to all who contributed in any way to bring the affair to such a successful issue. Mr George Gray has kindly consented to act as treasurer to the fund.
