PUBLIC LIBRARY.
To tha Editor. Sir,—T should like to know Under what antediluvian system our public library is conducted and who is responsible for the squandering of public money on certain classes of books that are fired into the library.; Who authorises the purchase of books ? Have the people who pay id in the £ per annum plus a subscription any say in the matter at all ? Surely sir, it is time that this matter was looked into. \ I noticed an article in your columns some time ago auggesting the setting up of a Library Committee. A very excellent suggestion and one that the Council should carry out. May I be permitted to suggest that you publish a list of books (and authors) as they are purchased. I do hope, sir, that the Council will set up a committee, and a little moire attention be paid to this very important institution.—l am, etc.,
Subscriber. [We have no doubt the Council will set up a library Committee as we have previously suggested. We shall be pleased to publish the names of new books purchased as suggested by our correspondent.—Ed. H.]
