PRESENTATION.

A very pleasing ceremony took place at Mr Perreau’s rooms yesterday afternoon. Upwards of 30 “ex-girl pupils ” of the local State School assembled to make a presentation to Mrs Stewart, who for so many years so ably seconded her husband’s efforts in making the social life of the school so pleasant. She inaugurated numerous concerts and juvenile plays and tableaux and carried them out with marked success. The young ladies faces yesterday afternoon beamed with pleasure as they recounted the various childish parts they sustained in those days. After afternoon tea had been dispensed Miss Furrie rose and reminded those present that the occasion was a reunion of old school girls who had assembled to make a small presentation to their old friend, Mrs Stewart. In the first place 1 she said their donations were to go with those of the old boys; but when the girls found they were to be debarred from attending the recent function, they decided to have a little gathering themselves and present Mrs Stewart with a small token of their esteem, in return for the many acts of kindness received from Mrs Stewart, in days gone by, and since leaving school. They all hoped Mrs Stewart would accept the small present as a proof of affection, which words were not needed to express. She asked Mrs Stewart to accept a handsomely upholstered easy chair; and concluded by (expressing the wish that both Mr and Mrs Stewart will liye, long to enjoy their well earned rest. She resumed her seat amidst loud applause.

Miss Fraser confirmed what Miss Furrie had said and referred! to. the charming little plays organised and carried out by Mrs Stewart.

Mrs Stewart, in acknowledging the gift, said it came as a great surprise and she was, for the first time in her life, “ knocked speechless’’(loud laughter). She then feelingly thanked “ the girls ” and invited them to come along some evening to her residence with their escorts and ‘ ‘sit in the chair. ” The function broke up by the singing of “ For she’s a jolly good fellow.”
