RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Won by Arthur Ballinger.
Arthur Ballinger has won the championship belt outright. On two previous occasions he held it and won it at the present meeting. Rifleman) A. S. Ballinger is well known to all interested in rifle-shooting. Commencing at the age of seventeen, with his brother William, in 1879, he has attented every meeting since, and 1893 at Trentham and at Auckland in 1897, he occupied the same prominent position he does to-day. Duncan, the runner-up, hails from the colliery district of Denniston, and is about thirty-four years of age. At Trentham in 1904 he won the medal for best volunteer shot in the South Island.
Young Drummond, who by steady work got into third place, is twenty-six years old, and started shooting in 1901, when he came to Trentham. In the past four years he has finished respectively eighth, thirteenth, ninth and third. In 1904 and 1905 he went Home with the teams representing the colony at Bisley.
