NEW PUBLICATION.
We have received from the publishes, Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs, a New Zealand publication entitled “ Sketches of Early Colonisation in New Zealand and its phases of contact with the Maori Race,” from the pen of “Te Manuwiri.” The author has spent his life in the colony and was educated in a semi-native school. The book is well worth reading and contains thrilling adventures and humorous tales told in simple language, which will be thoroughly appreciated by old and young colonials ; also the charming tale of;“ Hinemoa” with notes and vocabulary, by the Rev. H. J. Fletcher. Another book by the same publishers ‘ ‘ The Story of Te Waharoa and sketches of Ancient Maori Life and History,” by J. A. Wilson (lately a judge of the Native Land Court of New Zealand.) The' book is beautifully illustrated and its contents from the pen of such a high authority, admits it as a standard work of early New Zealand history. The above books should, find a ready sale throughout the colony. The printing and binding and general get-up of the books reflects the greatest credit upon the above wellknown publishing firm.
