MESSRS LEVIN AND CO.’S NEW STEAMER.

Mr Morgan, local manager for Messrs Levin and Co., has been advised that his firm has purchased in Auckland, for the Manawatu River service, the tunnel oil launch, Taihoa, for use on the upper portions of the Manawatu River. The launch has a length ot 45 feet with a beam of nine feet, and draws when light only nine inches. She is fitted with a Blake oil engine with 33 horse-power, and steams nine miles an hour. The Taihoa is practically a new vessel, having been built last November by the famous builder, Mr Charles Bailey. She is capable of carrying 40 passengers, but will be used principally for towage purposes, and with such a light draught and good power, should solve the problem of conveying goods over the shallow portions of our river. Mr W. Signal, who completed the purchase, will bring the launch down from Auckland to Taumaranui by rail, thence by the Wanganui River to Wanganui, and then she will possibly be towed to the Manawatu Heads. The vessel is expected to leave Auckland in the course of a day or so.
