THE TRIAL OF HARRY THAW.
New York. Feb. 11. A great revulsion of public feeling in Thaw’s favour has been caused by Mrs Thaw’s terrible story of White's actions. The defence intend now to renew the effort to secure the admission of Thaw’s extraordinary will, which bequeaths £ISOOO for the maintenance of six girls, whom Thaw alleges White ruined, and also provides £IO,OOO for the prosecution of any man who might cause Thaw to be assassinated. The bulk of property is left to his wife. Mrs Thaw admitted passing a note to her husband shortly prior to the murder stating the “B—” (meaning White) “ was here a minute ago, but went out again.” Her husband always carried a pistol in New York after Christmas 1903, The Judge refused to admit the wife’s testimony that the reason for Thaw’s carrying arms was White’s threats and the fear that he -would employ malefactors to assassinate him. Dr. Wagner, a specialist in mental diseases, expressed the opinion that Thaw was not aware that the shooting of White was a wrongful act. Women Excluded from the Court.
