The Subject to be Finally
Settled.
At last night’s Borough Council meeting correspondence was,' received from three firms who are prepared to instill a gas plant in the borough to be run by private enterprise. The companies were Messrs Atkiusouaud Sous. Auckland, H. Bulchor and 11. Curtis and Sons Dunedin.—Cr. Baker was of the opinion that the Council should settle' the question of lighting once and for all.
Cr. Austin favoured throwing the responsibility on the new council.
It was finally proposed by the Mayor and seconded by Or. Baker that the three firms offering to instal gas in the borough be informed that the Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, 25th inst to consider proposals from them to erect and work as a private concern a gas works, and to start on what terms and conditions they will a allow the Council to take over same at stated periods,'maxirnin price of gas, concession in price to Council, and that the Council will at the above meeting state which, if any, of the proposals will be accepted. The resolution was carried unanimously.
