HOME RULE.

London, Feburary 9,

Mr Lloyd George, addressing a meeting of 4000 Liberals and Russellites in Ulster Hall, Belfast, declared himself a profound believer in the principle ofself-government, but said that in any scheme introduced by the present Government the supremacy of the Imperial Parliament will be maintained. Separation between Ireland and Britain was unthinkable. Self-government meant strengthening bonds, the only real bond being contentment. Mr George’s was the first visit paid by a Liberal Minister to Belfast since 1885. Extraordinary precautions were taken to prevent threatened disturbances, but the demonstration in honour of his visit was of an orderly character, Orangemen apd Unionists generally held aloof.
