WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above was held yesterday. Present —Messrs Pirani (chairman), Bennett, Fraser, Dixon, Carson, Guthrie, Purnell, Smith, and Spurdle. Appointments : Wanganui, Miss Alexander; Kakariki, Miss Mowbray; Patea, P. O’Dea ; Kaponga, Miss Synott; Linton, Miss Bicheno; Piriraukawa, J. W. Clapham.

Resignations :—Castlecliff, J. L. Parkes ; Taihape, J. C. Thompson ; Mangarima, H. Roach ; Waitohi, A. M. Silby; Hurleyville, A. Lavery; Coal Creek, C. B. Weeks ; Kelvin Grove, W. E. H. Pew; Raketapauma, G. Spooner. Leave of absence was granted to Miss Larson, Paonui; J. Aitken, Wanganui ; J. R. Primen, Ohangai; G. M. Stace, Feilding ; also to Board’s Inspectors to attend conference in Wellington'. The Board adopted the recommendation of the Reports Committee that one teacher be asked to lesign, and the attention of some seven other teachers be drawn to the unsatisfactory nature of their work and to insist on better results. The Education Department has mads grants for additions to teacher’s residences at Ohingaiti, Bohangina and Eltham. It was decided to make application for teacher’s residence at Carnarvon. Resolved that tenders be called for the erection of a new residence for teacher at Foxton, and for the purchase of the old one; also for repairs at Ashhurst. Re special grant to schools, it was resolved to suggest to the Government that a minimum grant of £2 per school be paid and the balance pro rata. Patea’s application for conversion to a High school was held over, pending the receipt of particulars. Re technical college at Wanganui, it was decided to invite the school committee to a special Board meeting to discuss the same.
