ELINGAMITE TREASURE.

DEATH OF A DIVER. Auckland, January ■zy Captain Willis has telegraphed to Lloyd’s agent from Mangonui that the diver, T. Harper, employed in the search for the Elingamite treasure, died trom heart failure yesterday after making three descents and recovering another £BOO. Harper, who was about 69 years of age, kept the hotel at Little Omaha. Two of his sons were with him at the time of his death.

An inquest was held at Mangonui touching Harper’s death. The evidence showed that death was due to syncope, and a verdict of accidental death, no blame attachable to anyone, was returned. On the third occasion of going down, Harper remained under water 32 minutes, and just after coming to the surface collapsed.
