FIRE AT HIMATANGI.

A six-roomed house and contents at Hiraatangi owned and occupied by Mr and Mrs Hill, were totally destroyed by fire at 1 a.m. on Thursday last. From investigations made it appears that James and Roland Hill, aged 12 and 14, slept in the same room. During the night the former lit the caudle in order to dress, and placed it on a table near the window. The curtains were blown on to the candle and the flames rapidly caught the wall paper. Every effort was made by the family to fight the fiery elements which, however, got the upper hand. Only bedding and clothing were saved. Although the house and furniture was insured.for Mr and Mrs Hill are heavy losers. The insurance risks were held by the following offices : —North Queensland, £IOO ; National, The family are now using the stable as a dwelling.
