IMPORTANT DRAMATIC EVEENT.
Macmahon’s New Company.
That which should prove an unprecedentedly interesting dramatic event in Foxton will be the special drama of two nights which will be played on the race nights by Messrs Macmahon’s new and famous company which in its entirity will come specially from Wellington for the occasion. The organisation comprises with scenic and mechanical staff no less than 28 members and carries all the original scenery and effects of the production of the latest Loudon success. Their visit to Foxton will be limited to two nights, viz., Tuesday and Wednesday next, 22nd and 23rd inst. On the former evening will be produced the famous play which is a present reigning attraction in Europe and America, and which during the triumphant tour of the Macmahon company through New Zealand has in every centre been received with the same enthusiasm.
The central theme of this powerfully interesting story (says the Auckland Herald) offers about as fine dramatic material as it would be possible to imagine. The situation created by the revelation that a hitherto respected father has been for many years pursuing what the world regards as the least respectable of all respectable callings might well have tempted even Victor Hugo himself. On the other hand it might also have tempted Emile Gaboriau. While the play preserves the pathos of this main development, it also wanders through a series of incidents of thrilling interest and situations of a remarkable dramatic character. As it may be considered certain that everyone will flock to these performances of the largest company that has yet come to Eoxton a further outline of the motive of the story had better be left unpublished so as not to anticipate an interest of its development. The second production will be that of the equally successful London Adelphi military drama ‘ ‘ The Price of Sin,” which will be given on Wednesday evening, 23rd inst., and which will be staged in the same elaborate completeness ot detail that has made this management famous throughout New Zealand. The visit of the organisation is strictly limited to these two nights as thej l, proceed hence to Christchurch opening there for a month’s season on Saturday next. The box plans for both performances are now open at Fraser’s.
