SPORTING.
) By Early Bird.] Potoa Sports.
The native residents of Moutoa hold their usual outing at Potoa on Christmas Day. Canos races will be indulged in before' lunch, whilst horse racing will form the sport of the afternoon. Lord Soult is expected to beat all opposition in the two furlong flutter, while Waitapn may win the Cup. Kai Errin will probably be reserved for the Scurry, as the company he is pitted against in the Flying, Andresen’s Bony Mary and Bruiser Walls’ chestnut, are considered too classical. Momey Cannon, D. Maher, Bert Hewitt, Fred Jones and Charley Jenkins are all on their way to the scene of action, but even against such prominent horsemen local punters are likely to pin their faith to Charley Price’s mounts. Christinas dinner will be provided on the ground at a nominal fee. The Manawatu Meeting. Manawatn sports will have their full share of racing, what with three days at Awapuni and ono at Ashurst. Foxten is bound to be largely represented on Boxing Day, when the folio wing horses may survive at Awapuni: — Kelvin Hurdles —Mahoe or Maui. Tintea Hurdles—Capulet or Pushful. Manawatu Cup—Apa i, Mystification 3, Operetta 3, Gillies Hack —Moral or Lady Beresford. Nursery —Pearl Reef or Fireiron. Awapuni Handicap—Lord Soult or Buccleiigh. Grandstand Operetta (if reserved) or Mataari. Toney Messena sent Waicola to Martinborough this morning where the black should pick up a race before returning home.
