A furious feeling prevails here over Mr Metcalfs favourable report on the Japanese. The feeling against the Japanese is so acute that it is feared nothing President Roosevelt or the Federal Government can do will have the slightest effect in improving the situation. Race feeling is spreading all oyer the Pacific Slope. New Yonk, Dec. 20. The Eastern press unanimously endorse President Roosevelt’s attitude.
