News from France states that alter the i ith instant those responsible for holding any assembly for worship ot which notification is not given will be punished by a fine or imprisonment. The Archbishop of Bordeaux, who had authorised the clergy to notify assemblies on the ground that it was a mere formality, has now withdrawn the authorisation, and the clergy have been bidden to continue services as before.
The public prosecutors have been instructed to prosecute fot every infringement of the law.
The Government threaten fresh drastic legislation.
