The Wanganui Education Board.

MONTHLY MEETING

[by telegraph—special to HERALD j Wanganui, This Day.

The above meeting was held last night. Present; Messrs F. Pirani (chair), G. Carson, Alf. Fraser, F. Spurdle, G. Bennett, D. Guthrie, F. Purnell, and G. D. Braik, chief Inspector. E. Dixon, sent an apology for absence. Resignations were accepted from F. A. Poole, Hiwinui, and D. Perrott, Marton. Appointments : Miss E. L Henn to Norraanby; A. D. M. Eran to Marton. A number of teachers were granted leave of absence to attend examinations. E. Mossman, of Marton, applied for one month’s leave o&absence. —Refused. F. E. Watson, of Campbell street, applied for a fortnight’s extension of Christmas holiday.—Granted. H. Coventry was informed that he had full power to expel pupils complained of at the Technical school. It was decided to invite tenders for the erection of three rooms at Eltham on the,same plan as Marton and to advertise for a supervisor at Hawera at pei annum and expenses. Resolved to apply for a grant of £3°° for technical school buildings at Fielding. Messrs Braik and Varney were authorised to procure the necessary material required during 1907. It was resolved to advertise for an instructor in wood work at ,£175 and expenses. Decided that the chief Inspector furnish a report on the feasibility of a travelling scholarship for this and next year. The Secretary was instructed to advertise for a Kindergarten mistress for Wanganui at a salary of ,£l6O. Mr G. Carson was congratulated on his election to the Board of Advice to the Wellington Training College. Resolved to sell the present Board Office and to erect a two storey building with greater capacity and convenience on the technical school site in Victoria Avenue. Resolved to add two rooms to infant school at St. John’s and to provide accommodation for infants at the Queen’s Park school with a quadrangle at a cost of or Mr Carson will proceed to Wellington next week to approach the Government with respect to a grant for same.
