THE PEARY EXPEDITION.

Details of Lieutenant Peary’s expedition show that he reached within 155 miles of the North Pole.
When returning he encountered a severe snowstorm, the thermometer registering 75deg. below zero. The Esquimaux accompanying the party were nearly mad with hunger. Lieutenant Clarke, in charge of another party, was lost when 160 miles from the ship. His party was rescued after enduring hardships worse than those of Peary’s party.
