RIVER FRONTAGE LEASE.
Secured by Messrs Levin and Co.
The Manawatu River Service, of which Messrs Revin and Co are the local agents, is the successful purchaser of the Railway lease situated on the north side of the wharf on the river bank which was put up t© auction yesterday in Palmerston North. This section has a river frontage of x7s'feet and a railway frontage of 200 feet along which there will be erected a railway siding. The width is 120 feet at one end and 63 feet at the other. On this section will be erected an up-to-date grading and dumping shed for the grading and dumping of fibre and the dumping of wool. The steamers trading between Wellington and Foxton will be able to lay alongside the shed at any tide and receive their cargoes The Government, at the instigation of our Member, Mr John Stevens, has declared Foxton a grading port, thus both hemp and wool will merely have to be taken to Wellington and be ready for immediate shipment into the Home liners until such time as they receive their cargoes in the offing. The flaxmillers will greatly benefit in seeing their hemp graded on the spot instead of at another port as at present, and if any fibre is below the particular grade required, they can deal with the hemp at once instead of having to incur the extra expense of freight, to Wellington. A start will shortly be made with the erection of the building.
