CYCLE ROAD RACE.
| Some excitement was created yesterday by the local bicycle road race to Moutoa and back, promoted by Mr G. S. Fowler, on behalf of Messrs T. C. Fowler and Co., of Palmerston North. About five minutes past four the limit man in the person of little Duncan Laiug, aged n years, was pushed off the mark in front of Mr Howe’s cycle shop, amid encouraging cheers and was soon lost to sightin fact the boy covered the distance between starting point and 'the Moutoa schoolhouse inexactly 18 minutes, a very creditable per.fdfmance. After 10 minutes had elapsed, Schultz, Collins Walker were got away. The next * batch, Ford and Cooksley, I6ft two minutes later, followed after two minutes interval by the scratch man, M. Graham. At about five minutes to five it was reported that the sturdy little Duncan was leading the field, and the crowd got excited' for Duncan was made favourite. Schultz, however, who rode a really good race, passed everything and finished first, having covered the course in 49 minutes. Six minutes later Collins finished second and half a minute after Cooksley finished third. Shultz also put up the fastest time, and he fully deserved the applause he received as he passed the tape. Messrs J. W. Rough, E. Ball and D. E. Read were the judges. The first prize is a second-hand bicycle valued above and the second and third prizes a pair of bars, an outrigger, and an acetylene lamp 4
