A CHINESE SQUABBLE.
A little excitement was caused on the river bank in the vidriStf of the flaxmills yesterday afternoon by a squabble between two Chinamen who occupy evil-smelling huts in that quarter. It appears that one Young Eee, called on Lung Wong for the return of two sacks which the former said he had loaned to the latter. After a short altercation and much gesticulating, a scuffle ensued and it is alleged that Wong drew a knife and endeavoured to do a little blood-let-ting. A third Chinaman rushed to Lee’s assistance and saved him from the infuriated Wong. Both Eee and his mate were cut on the hands. Wong returned to his hut and Lee went to the police. Constable Whitehouse washed and bound up the injured man’s hand and in company with Constable Dixon went to arrest Wong. The constable, on opening the door, came in close proximity with Ja knife, which he warded off and lost no time in knocking Wong down and handcuffing him. Wong was under the impression that an attack was being made upon him by his previous opponents. At the local court this morning before Dr. Bennett, Wong was charged with causing bodily harm and remanded for a week. Constable Whitehouse while in Wong’s hut, secured an opium pot and pipe, etc.
