jjpXTON TENNIS CLUB. MEETING. The above was held in the Public Library last evening when there was a large attendance of members and intending members present. Mr Clemett was voted to the chair. In his opening remarks the Chairman expressed his pleasure at seeing so many present. The funds of the club in the past had been at a very low ebb and there was about still owing on the property. A sum would lx; required to be set apart for improving the courts, clearing the grass, asphalting, fence repairs, and topping the trees in order to obtain more light. The question of pavilion and locker would have to lie discussed. He paid a tribute to the ladies who had worked so hard in the interests of the club during the past season. Mr J. E. Marshall, secretary, read the annual report, which showed a credit balance of £6 13s 3d, out of which £4 odd was earmarked for interest. The receipts for the past year were .£22 ns 2d, the latter including an item of £lO paid’ off the property account. The membership for the year was 38. The mixed double tournament was successfully played to a finish and a match and return were played with the Sandon club who, were the victors. The dance held on May 23rd resulted in a credit balance of £3 14s 6d. The report concluded by stating that this year’s prospects were good. The report and balance sheet as read were adopted. The following officers were elected Patron, Mr Erankland; President, the Mayor (Mr Gower); Vice-Presidents, Messrs Hennessy, Hornblow, and Robinson ; Secreta.y and treasurer, Mr Morgan ; Committee, Messrs Chisholm, Clemett, Alex.’ Ross, Fraser, Marshall, Mesdames Robinson and Hornblow, Misses L- Austin. Wanklyn and Pearl Eraser; match committee, Messrs Clemett, Reade, and the secretary; auditor, MiHare. The subscription for males was raised from 10s to 12s 6d; ladies 5 The erection of a pavilion and other necessary improvements were referred to the committee to deal with. Mr Marshall,/ who found it necessary to retire from the secretaryship, was accorded a hearty vote of . thanks for past services and the Wtofiies were accorded a similar A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting; The committee subsequently met and decided to meet on. the-ground -..jnSSUveek and discuss,matters of importance. ■ .
