Foxton Athletic Club.
The Foxton Athletic Club Committee met at Gray’s Post Office Hotel, those present being:— Messrs M. Perreau (in the chair), F. Healey, K. Sutherland, J. Frew, J. Thompson, J. Jillett, E. Howe, F. Lawton, and F. D. Whibley (secretary). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Sutherland explained to the meeting that the Motoa Estate Syndicate (through Mr H. Austin) had voluntarily donated a trophy of costly value, to be competed for on the same conditions as their last Points Prize Cup. —Resolved that a vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes to Messrs Stevens, Easton and Austin—the Motoa Estate Syndicate—for their gratuitous gift. Although the matter had not been placed before his Sub-Union, still the secretary (Mr Sutherland) had voiced members on the trophy asked for, and all seemed _to favour the grant. He would bring the matter before his Sub-Union at next meeting, but in the meantime he would personally take responsibility. The secretary mentioned to the meeting that the Public Hall had been engaged by Mr Frank May’s company for the night _of the sports.—After consideration, it was decided that £i be offered Mr May to forego his right to the Public Hall on Sports night, and failing Mr May’s accepting, the Masonic Hall to be engaged by the Club for concert. The following additional cash donations were reported :—C. T. Easton £2 2s, H. Coley £1 10s, G. Gray £1 is. . Mr Jillett reported a successful canvas for trophies, and the different donors were awarded votes of thanks. The allocation of the trophies to the different events on the programme was fully dealt with. The full list of trophy donors is as follows :—Messrs Stevens, Easton and Austin (Motoa Estate Syndicate), M. Perreau, J. A. Nash and Co., T Haywood, Levin and Co.’s employees, Watchorn Stiles and Co., Foxton SubUnion, H. Berry and Co., Laery and Co., A. Fraser, E. A. Howe, Wycherley and Son, A. Bradley, A. R. Osborne, C. L. Barnard, M. Perreau’s employees. The secretary read replies re 1 advertising, and it was decided there was no necessity to advertise the sports programme in the “ Marton Advocate,” while the offer of the “ Feilding Star ” was* held over, pending the reply re special train. The secretary was instructed to further write the “ Manawatu Standard,” while no reply was yet reported from the “N. Z. Times.” The Manawatu Hkkaij) price for printing j and advertising was accepted. The usual vote of thanks to the chair and to Mr Gray for the use of room concluded the meeting.
