The Clarkson Road Race.

Great interest centred throughout the district yesterday in the Clarkson cycle road race, from Palmerston, through Linton, Tokomarn, Shannon, Levin, Foxton, Sandon, Feilding, Bunnythorpe, and back to Palmerston. The fill! distance was about 83 miles, and the winner turned up in A. E. Standen (Carterton) who had 45 minutes start ; A. Greenless (Aramoho), who had 40 minutes start, was second, six minutes later; while John Scobie (Longburn) with fifty minutes start, arrived at the finishing point about twelve minutes after the first man.

Out of 56 entrants, no. less than 36 went to the post. Standen’s time for the distance was six hours, 11 minutes, 23 seconds. He was the first man to pass through Foxton about 11.25 a.m.,' while the last official time taken was G. Hooker at about 12.16 p.m. Henderson, one of the scratch men, punctured his tyre when nearing Foxton.' A big smoke concert was held at Palmerston North Municipal Hall last evening in honour of the event.

Messrs Austin, Stewart, Taylor aud Gillespie acted as stewards at Foxton.
