HUIA v. AWAHOU (A DRAW.)

The weather of Saturday was boisterous right up to the time of starting the above game. Nevertheless, it cleared off as soon as the kick-off, and the result was a fair crowd gathered to witness the struggle between Huia and Awahou. The game itself ended iu a draw, these teams thus repeating their performance of a fortnight ago, when game ended likewise. Saturday's game cannot be said interesting to watch. Both sides went near scoring at times, but idiotic infringements caused by over-eagerness on the part of the attacking team prevented any material effect. Huia were certainly weakened by ihe absence of Terry Royal and Jimmy Desmond, who were both laid up, Leo Saville and W. Robinson were * missing from Avvahou’s ranks. For Awahou, Charley and Geo. Robinson did their work well, while Lambert and Spiers were other noticeable backs. All the forwards were conspicuous at times, Shad bolt, Coley, Wright, Joe, Jillett, ah dnin ,r good work. Shea and Jeffries have evidently learnt the booking art, and sent the ball through the scrum I smartly on several occasions. Huia missed, several chances in the backs through fumbling.

Davey Tatana and J\ DUtiri were perhaps their best. In tbe forward ranks Newth shone out occasionally, while the other big wing-forward, J. Bowe, McKearn, ana Putti- 'ere noticeable-. This team can certainly improve in scruni Woik. W. Broughton (Devin) had charge of the whistle, and though Awahou complained of his rulings in the first part they certainly got decidedly the best of it in the second half. Messrs Keriona and Meder held the touch flags. The latter substituted R. Hickson in his place the last spell. j SANDON (12) v. HUIMAI (3). 1 . | Sandon met Huimai at Oroua Bridge on Saturday last, and defeated the home team by 12 points flour unconverted tries to one try unconverted, obtained by Mat i Royal.) Huimai are said to have more than held their own in the forward ranks, but the Sandon backs clearly proved their superiority. Mr P. O’Dea made a capable referee. FOXTON SCHOOL v. TOWN BOYS. A team of town boys played the Foxton school boys in the school ground on Saturday, the game resulting in a draw. Tries were scored by Duncan Laing for school, and L- Fairley for town. Mr Geo. Dunn refereed. Position in Championship. S 3 <3 a O £ a -w £ a 3 >* ■ H t/> Jrt 2 rt « o o ” o H £ fu — - 1 Sandon 2 2004 Huia 21 o 1 3 Awahou 2 0 1 1 1 Huimai 2 0200 NOTES. Sandon come with a great reputation next Saturday to meet Huia, and the result should be a large attendance on their first appearance in Foxton. Mr Sutherland will referee. There was general delight by | competing teams when it was reported that Oroua Bridge had beaten Sandon by 12 to 3. Tbe figures were certainly correct, but the win was really on the other side, and the joy which overcame those who had hopod the report to be correct, in order that matters may be somewhat equalised for the competition, turned to dismay. Nevertheless Huia should make a good stand against Tiny McNae’s team next Saturday, and it is said several new men will don the guernsey for the black and white combination. The .meeting of the Sub-Union it Laing’s Hotel on Thursday night is important, embracing senior and junior fixture appointments, etc. Huia have decided to place a junior team in the field, to contest the E. A. Coley Cup. They had a very large meeting at Laing’s Hotel on Saturday night. Mr Ned Coley has donated half a guinea to the funds of the Albion F.C. The complimentary dinner to the Huia F. C., by Alf. ShadboU, of the Manawatu Hotel, which was postponed last Saturday, will take place next Saturday. Albion team against Awahou to-morrow will be picked from the following: Overend, Williams, Cole, Walker, Edwards, Furrie, Rimmer, Coon, Cummerfield, J. Broad, F. Whibley, D. and J. Webb, Howan, Flint, B. Spelman. Wilson, G. Coley, Young, E. Walker, Walls, F. and T. Bogue.
