Foxton Improvements
MR STIPES’ NEW RESIDENCE.
At All times we are pleased to any form of progress in ! ' Foxton and district, and we certainly think the new residence of Mr Geo, Stiles can be termed an .advancement. Our representative paid the building a visit of inspection yesterday. He found even the contractors puzzled to find a name for the design of the build--ing. Nevertheless, the main front consists of bay window with spiral top-piece, and verandah round both the sidekuid main frontages. Inside one cati speak with more authenticity, and certainly the i general surroundings go to show that a comfortable home is shortly to be occupied. Everything is completed on an up-to-date scale, sand nothing seems wanting. There are n rooms in all, the main front bedroom being 17 x 14, and the front drawing-room 16 x 14; the dining room (which is particularly . well lighted) is 23 x 14, and the kitchen 12 x 14. There are three Other bedrooms, office, bathroom (fitted with hot, cold, and shower sprays), store - room, scullery, linen press, and a will fitted washhouse attached to the main building. An improvement to the latter is a copper set with a flew above to convey the steam heavenwards. There is a hall passage six feet wide, by 46 feet long, through the house ; electric bells are attached to all rooms, and generally speaking nothing is wanting to make the home comfortable. Attached to the back of the residence are five large tanks, holding 2000 gallons of water, and fitted with latest bottom plug improvements |br cleaning purposes. The doors and fancy windows are of Muranaze glass, and the house is to be finished off with a roof painted with oxide of iron, and the main structure cream stone, purple brown facings and white mouldings. The plumbing has been carried out in accordance with Palmerston North by-laws, even to drainage. Outside the main building are ■ the usual outhouses and a stable, including buggy, harness and feed rooms.
From Park Road, the main frontage, an entrance is made through folding gates, attached to a picket fence. The whole work reflects credit On the architect (Mr Fagnar Jensen), clerk of works (Mr W. E. Terry, Foxton;, and the main contractors, (Clayton and Co., ol Danevirke) ; other contractors were : Gutheridge and Pocock, 0 Danevirke (plumbing), W. Nye of Foxton (bricklaying), and Geo. Jar vis and staff of Danevirke (painting and paperhanging). We welcome the new residence as a worthy addition to Foxton improvements, and commend Mr Stiles for his enterprise.
