A New Street.

At the Council meeting last evening, Mr Moore (on behalf oi Mr Brewer) wrote asking the authority of the Council to lay off a new street, from Union Street at feis property. This caused much discussion, Councillors generally being of opinion that if the request were granted, it should be made plain that the road and footpaths were to be properly formed and metalled.

Cr Coley could not understand Why Mr Brewer wished a reserve at the end of the proposed new' street.

Cr Baker thought Mr Brewer in the right, and he did not see why Mr Brewer should open the road right up to another man's property.

Eventually the following motion was put: Proposed by Cr Moore, seconded by Cr Frankland, That Mr Brewer be given leave to lay off street as requested, provided same be properly formed, graded, &c., according to the Act. This was not carried.

As an amendment, Cr Baker proposed, and Cr Gray seconded, That the Council visit the site and decide what shall be done in the matter.

The amendment was carried.
