Capetown, Feb. 2, Three thousand met at Johannesburg for the purpose of protesting against the slanders of England igainst the Transvaal community in regard to the Chinese labour. Charles Leonard, President of the Johannesburg National Union, challenged a noisy minority to substantiate the allegations of muelty to Chinese, whereupon a member of the audience quoted llusage in the mines if a guarantee were forthcoming that the witnesses would not suffer as regards heir employment. The protest was carried with an overwhelming majority, and a resolution moved in the body of hall, urging the Motherland to appoint a Royal Commission to inquiry into the condition of Chinese labour on the Rand.
