- THE iftrt MATCH BRINGS t; POINTS. London, November n. At Richmond to-day the New Zealand footballers played the seven leenth match of their tour, when they defeated Richmond by 17 points to nil. There were about 8000 spectators. The ground was very- heavy* tor the first half hour play was splendid, and very even. Then Hunter, by a brilliant piece of work, managed to cross the line, but Wallace failed in his kick at goal. Wallace scored the second try, but was again unsuccessful in his attempt to increase the score. Half-time was called with the score New Zealand 6, Richmond nil.
Early in the second spell the New Zealanders became aggressive. Stead, outpacing his opponents, got a try, followed in rapid succession by tries by Deans and Wallace. Wallace only succeeded in converting Dean’s try. Richmond then attacked strongly till the close of the game, but the New Zealand defence prevailed, and there was no further scoring. The game ended New Zealand 17, Richmond nil.
Next Wednesday the colonials will meet Bedford, at Bedford, after which they will travel to Edinburgh, where the match against Scotland is to be played on Saturday.
