The Manawatu Seat.
MR STEVENS AT SANSON
A well-attended meeting of Mr John Stevens’ supporters was held in the mte-room of the Sanson Jdall for the onrpose of forming an election committee on Saturday evening last. The whole of those present resolved to form themselves into a committee.
Mr J. A. Bailey was unanimously elected chairman, and Mr J. M. A’Courfc secretary to the committee. Mr Stevens, who was present, gave a short addresp, in which he pointed out the great improbability of the 1 old Opposition (who now numbered only about 13 or 14) ever again getting the reins of power. What the electors had to fear was not the legislation oi the present party in power, but the socialistic proposals of the socalled Young New Zealand Advanced Liberals. A vote of thanks to Mr Stevens for his address, and a similar compliment paid to the chair, concluded a very successful meeting.
