Lasa-o’-Gowrie and Fireball left for the Bulls meeting yesterday. At Randwick on Saturday Up-to-Date (Steeplechase), Isolt (Members Handicap), and Nightfall (Randwick Plate) were New Zealand horses to score* At the meeting, the sum of £6,446 was won by New Zealand owners, Mr Stead receiving £3570, and Mr Good £2222. Mr Stead’s horses are to return by the Moeraki next Saturday, the owner probably returning at the same time.
A Sydney' cable says Nightfall’s victory in the Randwick Plate on Saturday was marked by a great popular demonstration. Cheering commenced when Nightfall was passing the distance post, swelling into a continuous shout as she swept past the post. It was renewed when she returned to the weighing-stand, many thousands joining the scene. There was much enthusiasm, lasting several minutes, reminiscent of the welcome accorded to a Melbourne Cup winner.
