Foxton School Committee.
At the monthly meeting of the Foxton School Committee last evening, there were present—Messrs Baker (chairman), T. Betty, G. Coley, G. Gray, and F. W. Frankland (secretary). Apologies were received from Mrs Frankland, Rev; Wilson, and Mr Barnard. The headmaster (Mr W. S. Stewart) also attended.
The npinutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Frankland then read the headmaster’s report, and as the result of a recommendation therein, it was proposed by Mr Betty, seconded by Mr Frankland, That two dozen pairs of dumb-bells be procured for the girls. Carried.
Mr Coley then asked the question as to the authority under which occasionally holidays were granted to teachers and children.—Proposed by Mr Frankland, seconded by Mr Baker, That the question raised by Mr Coley be’ submitted to the next full committee Carried, Mr £ specter’s Report on . , . r ? c , ex , animation of the school, wi».' c s ° w s a higher percentage of passes thaT T 1 years past, whilst not in a single class were the words “weak” 6t “inferior” used in the Inspector’s remarks. —Proposed by Mr Baker, seconded by Mr Frankland, That the headmaster and teachers be : commended for the excellent results. Carried.
Correspondence was then read, which included a letter from the Wanganui Education Board respecting an exhibition to take place there towards the end oi the school year.—-Proposed by Mr Frankland, seconded by Mr Gray, That the secretary be instructed to write tor the schedule in detail of the coming exhibition. Carried. The Chairman then reminded the committee that at the previous meeting the question of children who ought to be attending school but were not, was held over till this meeting because the question of a new schoolhouse had not at that time been definitely settled by the Board. Mr Frankland pointed out that although it might have been settled a few hours ago, at the Wanganui Board meeting that afternoon, the school committee had received no word. He therefore proposed that the matter be again adjourned. This was seconded by Mr Coley and carried. Accounts were then passed, except one item, respecting which Messrs Coley and Gray w r ere asked to report on, which they consented to do. It was proposed by Mr Baker, and seconded by Mr Frankland, that those gentlemen be a visiting committee for the month. This concluded the business.
