Foxton Rifle Cadets.

ANNUAL BALL. This function, which took place in the Public Hall last evening, proved, in spite of heavy and incessant rain, a thorough success, on which the management is to be congratulated. Although it is known that the weather accounted for the absence ot many, there was still an attendance of about sixty couples, while there was also a fair number of spectators. Several visitors were present from outside centres. Dancing commenced at about 8.30, and was kept going with vim until about three o’clock this morning, when the last of the reveU os regretfully wended their way wards. Supper arrangements weir m the hands ot a number of lady irieno* of the cadets, headed by Mrs Hamor, and were generally voted “ excellent, Members of the corps were assiduous nn 'Attending to the wants ot visitor-:-., and, incidentally, in showing off to Si .4 advantage the gay trappings of tS-u new uniforms. The music was in tim Capable hands of Mr Bcrlholdi (pinn- ? and Miss Alve (violin), and

greatly appreciated by all present. Extras wfre played by Miss Have ; and Mr Kurtz. The M’s.C., Captain Hamer, Lieutenant Hickson, am-Colour-Sergeant Imrie, were attentive to their duties, and contributed in no small degree to the enjoyment of the evening. Altogether the Foxton Kike Cadets should be well pleased with the splendid result, social!}' and financial!'., ef their first venture, in spite of the efforts of Jupiter Pluvius with his bi,st hydrant to damp the ardour of in:; festive ones. It is understood that a fairly large *redit balance will be the outcome ol the ball.
