“ Goal-Post,” in the M-a.itawatU Standard,” has the fefidwillg remarks:—'The quest-hit. IS frequently asked in football circles " How do Foxton men stand as regards the Manawata reps. ?” Now that the team to play Wanganui on the 24th is on the eve of selection it behoves the election committee to enquire into litlie- capabilities of players from the •southern section. I have it from reliable judges that there is a centre three-quarter down that way n-Whccl Barker, who, on his play this season, is worthy of selection, whilst Mat Royal ail'd jimmy Dunn ‘are other backs worthy of note fighting for the Sirnptson Cup. Of forwards there are many .'hard grafters, but perhaps Honker, a •“ liftceu-stoncr,” with a lot of pikCe, IS ’the shining light. “ Bill ”is regarded ;as something of an Achilles at home aad gets little cha.ucc to distinguish himself. Still, he rs quick at seeing an opening, and always displays that dash and garncncss which characterises a good rep. forward. Barker is a Herowhenua rep. player of 1903, and is reputed to be a class above anything out in Foxton. His defence is said to tfo solid, an >t l, though a bit on tifo light side, lr- can muster up aid of pace, and ,s as, game as they make them. Mat. Rcyal is said to lie an ex-Te Ante •Voltage boy, and therefore he has a Hound knowledge of the Rugby art. It 5s just as well the selectors should Ikaow the facts, and possibly view their play before choosing the team to battle for the district. Cannot a trial match he arranged for next Saturday, or, falling that, cannot one of the selection committee visit Foxton next Saturday to view the qualifications of some of the players mentioned ?
Mr E. G. Sutherland, who is sojourning hi Palmerston North, attended the M&nawatu Rugby Union meeting this ‘week, and supported the claim of Foxton players for rep. caps. As a result, should the weather be favourable, both Messrs Foote and Nash (selectors) will attend Foxton football on Saturday next, with a view of witnessing the capabilities oi local kickists. Mr E. Nash will hold the whistle. It ic to be hoped our Rugby stars will be on their best behaviour.
The following will represeat Awahou in their match with Old Boys on Saturday :—Bales, Williamson, G. Robinson, Robinson (2), Coley, Joe, Robinson, Meder, Coley, Carter, F. Williams, Jeffries, Charles, Jillett. —Emer. Presthag, Cook, Waldou, Spiers. Old Boys team -Shadbolt, (3), N. Barker, Newth, J. Dunn, Hooker, Marshall, Desmond, Lee, Curtis, G. Coley, Proctor, Wright, Dunn. Old Boys hold a practise in the Hall to-night. ___________
