Foxton Borough Council.

At the ordinary meeting of the Foxton Borough Council, held last evening, there were presant -His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower,' Esq.), Crs. O. Austin, G. Stiles, G. Gray, G. Nye, R. Moore, A. Shadbolt, F. W. Franklaud, H. Baker. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. REPORTS. The Sanitary Inspector reported the borough to be in a clean and sanitary condition. Since last meeting he had occasion to give notice in three cases of nuisance, but all had been attended to. The pound-keeper reported that 52 head of cattle had been impounded during the month. The Treasurer reported that £SB 17s 5d had been paid to the credit of the District Fund Account, and that the Bank balances stood at District Fund £169 7s 7d; Streets Loan Account, £152 12s 6d ; both in credit. Ihe balances of the separate accounts were : Library, £4O 0s 3d ; Reserves, £B3 12s 8d ; Cemetery, £1 4s 3d ; Interest, £B9 fOs; Street Loan, £152 12s 6d All the above are at credit, while the General Account is £35 19s 9d at debit. the accounts as read were passed for payment and reports adopted. BALANCE SHEET. The balance-sheet as read showed the receipts for the year, ending 31st March, to have been £1298 12s 6d, and the expenditure £ll9B Is 4;J, the credit balance being £IOO 11s 2d. Full detail shall appear in our next s me. A POSTAL MATTES. The Mayor explained that he had written the Postal Department on matters pertaining to the delivery of municipal correspondence, and the Council accorded him a vote of thanks for so doing. THE CYCLING TRACK, Cr O Austin introduced a deputation from the Athletic Glnb, consisting of Messrs Sutherland, Frew, Furrie and Martin, who waited on the Council with reference to the improvements necessary to the Athletic Park track. - On the motion of Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles, it was resolved, “ That the Reserves Committee visit Victoria Park on Wednesday, May 17th, at 2.30 p.m. to decide what shall be done in regard to the planting of trees not completed by Mr R. Gray, and also to meet and receive report from the Athletic Club, re improvements to cycle track.” OTHER BUSINESS. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Baker, “ That in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by the Municipal Corporation Act, 1900, the Council of the Borough of Foxton hereby resolves as follows : That Gray street leading from Main street to Harbour street shall be stopped, and shall hereafter cease to be a public highway. And that a special meeting of the Foxton Borough Council shall be held on Monday, 12th June, 1905, to confirm the above Special Order.” Carried.

Proposed by ■' ’r Baker, and seconded by the Mayor, “ ! bat the Town Clerk be advised to write a letter to Mrs Mary Symons’ solicitors as instructed by Council’s solicitors.” Carried.

Proposed by Or Moore, seconded byCrShadb lit, “That in the,event of Grey street being legally closed the part of the street lying on the South of the Awahou stream be given to Mrs Symons by way of compensation for the closing of the street which bounds her property.” Not carried.

Proposed by Cr Gray, seconded by Or Austin, “ That the application of Messrs Wyatt, Clark and Co. for an auctioneer’s license be granted to John Cameron, one of the firm.” Carried. Pronosed by Cr Gray, seconded by Or Nyo, “ That the wells at each end of Main Street be cleaned out, and new suckers put on the pumps, so that the public can get water.” Carried.

Proposed by Cr Stiles, seconded, by Or Austin, “That the application of the Masonic Lodge for a footpath in Liddell street be granted.” Carried.

Proposed by Or Stiles, seconded by Cr Baker, “ That the Council give authority to the Library Cornmitee to sell or exchange those books that they consider can be replaced tobetteradvantage.” Carried. Proposed by Or Nye, seconded by Cr Moore, “That Mr Cooksley’s offer to work the road machine as far as necessary at 35s a day be accepted.” Carried. Proposed by Or Baker, seconded by Cr Frankland, “ That the Library Committee, at an early date, obtain new books for the current year and that the Town Clerk be instructed to get catalogues of books.” Carried, Pronosed by Cr Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles, “ That the deputation, consisting of Messrs Siggs, Barber, Heta and others be advised to apply to the Manawatu County Council anjJ plflco tbeir grievance re draining

Proposed by Or Baker, s eoudrd by Or Stiles, “ That the Council take steps to prevent damage to private property owned by Mrs A. Baker, Mr B. H Baker, and others, caused by flooding of drain in Baker street and any other street’, the overseer to report what steps are necessary.” Carried.

t Proposed by Or Baker, seconded by Cr Stiles, “ That a special meeting of the Council be held on Monday fortnight to consider proposals for loan schemes.” Carried, Proposed by Cr Aust’u, seconded by Or ; -Gray, ‘'That in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by the Municipal Corporations 1900, and the Public Libraries Act, 1869, the Foxton Borough Council hereby notifies its intenfion to strike a generd rate of Is 31 in the £ and a library rate of Id in the £on the annual v due of the whole of the rateable properties within the Borough of Foxton on Monday the 12ch June, 1905, for the period commencing Ist April, 1905, and terminating on 81st March, 1906, to be due and payable in one sum at the Council Office on the first day of July, 1905 ” Carried,
