AN EXPLANATION. TO THE EDITOR OF THE MANAWATU HERALD. Sir—l notice that in your issue of the 18th inst you draw the attention of the public to the want of hospitality on the part of the officials of the Foxton Gymnasium. I should like to draw yeur attention to the following rules drafted by the committee: —Rule No. xi says “ No one not a member of the club shall be admitted to the gymnasium on class nights.” Rule No. 12: “ A public exhibition shall take place twice a month, when a small charge shall be made to non-members.” I might state that these rules were read out on the opening night. It is a well-known fact that any pupil taking lesions does not like spectators, who would pass remarks, etc; and I don’t think you would find agyranaiium in the colony where strangers are allowed in on a class night. Trusting the public and espectially the unfortunate visiting gymnasts will accept this explanation. —I am, etc., R. Hickson, Hon. Sec. F. S. P. C. [The point we wished to draw attention to was the apparent ingratitude of the F.S.P.C. to persons who had taken some trouble to assist the club in it* initial stages. They were visitors, otherwise they would have joined as ordinary members. And in the circumstances they could scarcely have been looked upon as strangers likely to disconcert novices.— Ed. M.H.I
