MANAWATU RUGBY UNION MEETING. THE APPLICATION FROM FOXTON ACCEPTED. At the adjourned annual meeting of the Manawatu Rugby Union at Palmerston North on Tuesday evening, Mr E. G. Sutherland, the secretary of the Foxton Union, forwarded an application requesting that the Foxton clubs be affiliated with the Manawatu Rugby Union. In the accompanying letter it was stated that a meeting of clubs had resolved on the desirability of being under recognised rule and control, and, if possible, should become affiliated to this Union. Last year Foxton endeavoured to control its own football management, but it proved unworkable. Mr Fred Robinson, who was deputed to wait on the Manawatu Union, attended, and detailed the unsuccessful attempt to promote properfoatball and its management in Foxton last year, and the clubs had concluded it would be better if the Manawatu Union would take them under its control and allow them to compete for the championship of Manawatu. Three teams had signified their willingness to adopt this course, and probably another would decide upon a similar course in a few days. He felt sure the scheme would be workable and be an incentive to, better football. Mr Warden also spoke on the matter, and said that the action of the Foxton clubs was commendable and would undoubtedly receive every consideration. They all knew that football and its management in Foxton last year was not what it should have been, and in desiring to become affiliated with Manawatu the southern teams were actuated by the right spirit. Personally he saw no reason why the request should not be entertained, and besides threatening the Union it would introduce new players into our ranks and infuse keener interest in football generally. The Foxton teams understood thoroughly what was expected of them and what to expect from this Union, and he had bean informed that they were willing to support this Union in every way possible. Very little objection was shown to the application and after a conversational discussion Mr Warden moved, “ That Foxton be admitted as a southern section of the Manawatu Union, provided four teams are entered; that they play out their section, the number of rounds to correspond with the number played by the northern section, one or three matches (the number and place of meeting to be decided by the management committee) for the Hankins’ Shield; and that the management of the southern section must conform to the rules of this Union in every respect," Mr Gibbons seconded the motion, and remarked that the Foxton teams were to be congratulated on the step taken. He regarded it as the duty of this Union to secure and encourage as many players as possible, and no doubt could be felt but that the Foxton addition would be welcome. The Union was entailing no extra expense and in the alternative probably enhancing their prospects of some day elevating its position financially. The motion was then put and carried unanimously.—Manawatu Standard. NOTES. The Old Boys are matched to play a scratch gare w u ’ Awahou on Saturday week. Entries for v . oxton footboll competition will be 1 ceived by tha Executive secretary up till Tuesday next. The Executive meet on Wednesday evening next at Haywood’s Hotel.
