The Park Cycle Track.
IMPROVEMENTS WANTED. At last night's meeting of the Birough Council a deputation consistineof Messrs Frew, Furrie, Perrcan and Jillett waited on the council and asked for a £ for £ subsidy np to £25 to improve the cvcle track in Victoria Park. Mr Frew acted as spokesman, and explained what was proposed to be done. Cr Speirs suggested that the proposed straight sides should be avoided by making whole track oval in shape, and so giving a better angle to lead into the end runs. Cr Austin said the whole trouble was that the track was not banked up sufficiently. Cr Stiles agreed with Cr Austin, but agreed that the sides sholud be given more of a curve. Mr Frew said the club had obtained the opinion of several riders, who all agreed that what was was wanted most urgently was the banking up of the corners some 18 inches. A straight run was indispensable for men to finish races in. The council agreed to give the subsidy asked for, the work to be carried out . under the supervision of the borough officials.
