School Committe.
A meeting of the Foxton School Committe was hesd last evening in the Council Chambers, those present being Messrs Jenks, Austin, Bradcock, Coley, and Baker. In the absence of the' chairman (Mr Clemett) Mr Jenks was voted to the chair. It was reported that the Education Board had agreed to grant a subsidy of £ for £ for the erection of a _ shelter shed, and the committee decided to confirm suggestions made by the chairman for carrying out the work. A previous decision to erect a saddle stand was rescinded, room now being available in one of the old shelter sheds which is being converted into a wood and coal shed. The Petone School Committee forwarded a circular of protest against the appointment by the Wellington Education Board of a teacher in defiance of the wishes of the committee and residents of Petone. Legal opinion on the point was quoted, and the Petone Committee asked thf co-operation of the Foxton Committee in urging an alteration of the Education Act to secure better consideration of the wishes ot committees in such matters. The committee decided to endorse the Petone Committee’s action. The Headmaster reported that the average attendance for March was 210, which compared favourably with the corresponding month last year. He drew attention to certain necessary repairs at the school. An additional pupil teacher was required for the infmt department. It was decided to ask the board to appoint an additional pupil teacher. Accounts totalling £4 2s were passed for payment. Before the meeting closed Mr Bradcock made complimentary reference* to the work done by Mr Baker as secretary, these expressions being supported by other members present.
