We understand that the secretary of the Old Boys Club has received a challenge from the Shannon Club to play a match in that township next Thursday. In the football match Taranaki v. Auckland, played in the Northern city on Saturday, one man had his nose broken, another had a knee wrenched, and a third had his collarbone fractured. And yet it is said that the game was “ lacking in interest from a spectator’s point of view.” The following players will represent Awahou in their match against the Huias on Saturday Full-back, W. Coley; }, J. Coley, J. Wilson, F. Robinson; five-eight, J. Presthng; half,]. Louisson; wings, J. Joe, W. Robinson; forwards, R. Jeffries, J. Jillitt, B. Brown, F. Procter, J. Lee, Alcorn. Emergs.—Backs; B. Shadbolt, G. Lees; forwards, A. Wright, F. Charles. The washing bill of the New Zealand Native team in England was a tremendously heavy item, likewise the -washing itself. The linen used to get a bit mixed at times, and then there was fun. On one occasion the washer lady struggled into the hotel where the team were staying laden with a huge clothes basket containing some of the things. Dumping the basket down in the middle of the floor, she exclaimed, “ Help yourselves.” On proceeding to do some articles of feminine attire were fished out, but as no one claimed them, and they would not do for knickers, they were passed out.
