Tanner’s New “ Ark.”

Mr Felix Tanner has almost completed his third “ ark,” which he is personally building in Wellington. The craft is ready to have the mast stepped, and will be launched about September Ist. The boat measures 24ft, 14ft shorter than the canoe Tilikura. An iron railway rail weighing 4cwfc is attached to a huge kauri keel. The “ ark ” is 6ft Gin in beam, and is 6ft in depth, with a freeboard of Bft when loaded. The ballast carried will amount to 6 tons, including a fresh water lOOgal. tank underneath the cockpit. The bull of the boat fore and aft of the barrel is clinker planked with half-inch white pine boards. The only part of the craft which is water-tight is the breaker-shaped barrel. The barrel is practically the cabin, in which there are two bunks. The “ ark ” will carry one mas f , 25ft high, cutter rigged, with a spread of 60 square yards of canvas.—N Z. Times.
