The Austral Guards Band.

DISGRACEFUL SCENES AT WOODYILLE.

A disgraceful scene occurred at the Woodville railway station yesterday morning consequent on the visit of the Austral Guards Band to Woodville. When the Band arrived on Tuesday they marched up from the station to town. On their way they met Somervill’s big bus driven b/ a man named Eccles. The latter pulled off as far as possible, but the Band did not ease off at all, and one of the members flourished an instrument in the face of one of the horses, causing it to swerve. Eccles lashed out wiljji his whip. At the concert given in the eVening further reference was made to the incident by the bandsmen, who described Eccles as a contemptible cur, etc.

Yesterday morning at the railway station the Band looked for trouble and gob it. One of their best fighting men hit Eccles on the cheek. Eccles retaliated and a fight ensued. A bandsman referred to Woodville people as “ a set of dirty dogs,” and was promptly laid low by a bystander. The band finally took refuge in train.'

Considerable disgust is felt at the behaviour of the band while in Woodville.

Ifc is likely several members of the Ba.nd 7 will be brought to book for assault.
